Improvements or Features / Re: Guild Roster
« on: January 14, 2021, 08:06:13 AM »
Hey guys! I got something around to this. Let's get few things out of the way and then I'll explain stuff.

@Adrahil: color-coded names are not a bad idea but it requires to display a legend to show which color and which class. I'll like to reduce memory time each time a user gets on the website. I could get creative with it and doesn't require users to memorize which color/which class. Although, that's something I need to think about with UI design. The player names already have a hyperlink with style rules. Throwing color-coded in would get messy.

@Rexa: I can definitely add a class column on overview rpp page. I can even go further and include them in player page, too.

@Everyone: I did something with forum custom fields long time ago and I didn't get around to it until now. I created two fields: 'Class' and 'Primary Alt'. We could be more creative with custom fields if you'd like. Example: Deity, Primary Alt Class, Levels, AA counts, etc. This step requires you to input the information in your account settings info in the forum.

As for the roster page, I'm sure we can come up with something but I don't have a set of requirements to go with. We can show a list of rosters (active, retired, casuals, etc.) or just (active). The roster page should be public display while RPP page is limited to registered user and few specific membergroups only.

Or, we can do both. Building a roster page AND update RPP page to include class and primary alt.

This morning, I managed to whip up a nice query from active raiders with SMF profile/custom fields. Here's the test page:

If you see that your info has not been inputted, you can go ahead and update your account settings info. Then, refresh the 'testroster' page. You should be able to see new changes you made.

After a set of requirements has been determined, I can apply them to new roster page and/or the rpp pages.

General Discussion / Re: Laptop

You can probably fetch a good laptop that can do games well for $500-ish. Look for AMD laptops.

AMD CPU with G.SKILL RAM are the best experiences. You should look into G.SKILL.

You should look into MicroATX - Check Meshify Case out. Also, you shouldn't need water cooler for AMD cuz most games can run well with stock cooler. 3600x is pretty good deal right now. Also, check out mobo with m.2 slot. Then, you can get SSD m.2 drive as primary storage drive.

Why so overpriced laptop when you can get cheaper laptops that can run EQs easily? :P Unless you plan to play FPS and other heavy games/programs!

You should look into hard drive dock.

It's very handy tool if you want to plug USB dock in with hard drive in. Easy to access data and grab them at your desire.

You also should consider NAS:
if you want to store entertainment files into there and you can access NAS from anywhere in your house. Less dvd/blu-ray labor and more focused on digital storage option.

You don't need DVD drive to install Windows. You can use bootable flash drive to install Windows. CD/DVD drive is so old. I don't even have one in my PC. :P

As for SATA drives, I can think of few things: are your SATA drives plugged in with SATA cable and power cable? Do you plug your power supply with all necessary cables? (There are different plugs like SATA, PCI, PS, Motherboard, etc.) You might miss one plug there. Also, make sure that your BIOS is still allowing SATA (it should be automatic.)

I have a feeling that you missed one more cable to Power Supply.

We had a plan to re-create RPP page and that fell apart. What I can do is to quickly make a RPP page (display only) and Spiffy can upload data. I'd like to create guild roster page with pics or a RPP page with character profile link that can display infos and pics. I'd need to focus on development, not on game. :P

Bugs / Re: Caps on the front page in username box

Oops. Thanks for letting me know. Didn't realize that font family is making it look like all capped texts. I updated to normal Arial or any sans-serif. Should be able to see better.

There are a lot of black friday deals on SSD. You should be able to get a really good deal on it. I usually get 500GB SSD and it's enough. Go with WD or Samsung.

That doesn't sound right. There should be no nasty virus coming with discord. In any installation process, you always need to watch step by step and uncheck any requests to add more stuff like toolbox, Bing, whatever it is. Make sure to uncheck them.
